PURCHASES - GENERAL INFORMATION

HORNS:  All goats are sold disbudded.  If you want horns on your kids (I strongly suggest against it) you must notify me before I disbud my kids at about a week of age and be prepared to take the kid at two weeks of age and raise it yourself.

PREWEANING AGE KID HEALTH CHECK:  Young kids will be visually inspected for anemia and possibly a fecal test run before going to your farm.  They will be treated for coccidiosis prior to leaving here if needed to avoid an outbreak due to the stress of moving.  Kids will be given a C&D antitoxin shot to safeguard against stress-related enterotoxemia outbreaks due to the stress of moving.

Wethers will be banded and given a tetanus antitoxin shot before leaving.  If you are concerned about the development of urinary stones I recommend you plan on NOT giving your wether any grain and feeding a high calcium mineral possibly with ammonium chloride.

If you buy a kid on the bottle it is extremely important to coordinate with me regarding bottle feeding.  It would be best to plan to have the same type of nipples I use and a compatible milk replacer.  There is some information on my care program page as to what I recommend for bottle feeding.

WEANING AGE KID HEALTH CHECK:  Older kids will also be checked for coccidiosis and also worms and treated as necessary before leaving for your farm.  Depending upon how old the kids are and what you want to do as far as vaccinations go, they may have a C&D antitoxin shot or their first course of Covexin Eight.  If they have already had Covexin and you wish to booster them, make sure to have this vaccine on hand either from your vet or purchase a bottle for yourself or ask me to give you a shot and plan to bring a cooler when you pick up your kid(s).

ADULT GOAT HEALTH CHECK:  Milking does will be visually inspected for anemia and likely wormed before leaving so to not spread worms quickly to your property.  All milking does will be sent to their new home with a generous supply of my grain so that you can slowly mix the feed with your feed (I use a custom mix that is not commercially available).  Please plan on having suitable grain and good quality grass hay available for your goats.  Hooves will likely have some growth to them as it's not advised to move goats right after freshly trimming their feet.

Dry older does, older bucks and most kids are not usually sold with grain for you to mix, they can be slowly put on new grain with no ill effects.  They will likely be wormed before leaving.
